HERE is a great use of Twitter by the Manchester Evening News (MEN) with its MENGreenLife feed that is using the service to promote their own in-paper campaign, as well as link to other stories elsewhere.
There are a couple of things at play here, the first is that the MEN can't cover every story about green issues each day but can become the place where people gravitate to.
As more and more articles are made available a reliable 'editor' can build up a reputation, but instead of just keeping people on their own site, pointing readers to elsewhere will make them see the 'editor' as the place to start their reading - it's the Google principle.
And the MEN is hooking in to a subject that is clearly going to be of interest to more and more people, but by using Twitter they are alongside readers wherever they may be in a lightweight, simple format.
Finally it is not going to be a great time sink for journalists as they are covering green issues in the newspaper anyway and will be following feeds to stay up to date, so in a couple of clicks a line of text and a link can be fed into Twitter.
