GOOGLE are to base an office in Manchester that will serve advertisers in the Midlands, Northern England, Wales and Scotland.
The search engine giant aims to help businesses get the most out of online advertising with their targeted Adwords system.
This allows people to pay for advertising that is linked to the keywords people use when searching online and is only charged when an actual click on the advert occurs.
Kate Burns, of Google, said: "Manchester is the north's creative capital with 70,000 employed in advertising, marketing, IT and the media.
"Coming to the city was an easy choice to make - we believe it offers the right environment for Google to extend its services across the UK."
